Hello, One of the top female singers of all-time is Concetta Rosa Maria Franconero or as the world knows her, Connie Francis. She was born on December 12, 1938 in Newark, New Jersey. She began recording for MGM Records in 1955 and between 1961-65 appeared in the movies, WHERE THE BOYS ARE, FOLLOW THE BOYS, LOOKING FOR LOVE and WHEN THE BOYS MEET THE GIRLS. She is pop music’s #1 female vocalist from the late 1950′s to the mid-1960′s.
Connie put 67 songs on the Billboard charts between 1957 and 1973 with 56 of them charting on the Billboard Top 100 and Hot 100. She charted 16 Top 10 hits and that’s just in America. She was huge in foreign markets and recorded in different languages. This post will just look at the songs Connie took to the top of the Billboard chart…her five greatest hit singles.
Number 5 is her first Top 10 hit, “WHO’S SORRY NOW”, charting on February 24, 1958 Connie took this huge record to #4 on the Top 100. It remained on the chart for 22 weeks. The “B” side was “YOU WERE ONLY FOOLING (While I Was Falling In Love)”, it did not chart.
Number 4 made its chart debut on December 8, 1958. “MY HAPPINESS” climbed up the Hot 100 to #2 and held that spot for 2 weeks. Connie’s hit remained on the Hot 100 for 18 weeks. The “B” side was “NEVER BEFORE”, it did not chart.
Number 3 was Connie’s third #1 song. “DON’T BREAK THE HEART THAT LOVES YOU”, charted on February 10, 1962. It went to #1 on both the Hot 100 and the Billboard Adult Contemporary charts. It was #1 on the AC chart for 4 weeks. The flip side was “DROP IT JOE”, a rock song. It received air play but did not chart.
Number 2 is her second #1 hit, “MY HEART HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN”, entering the Hot 100 on August 15, 1960 it was a #1 record for 2 weeks and remained on the Hot 100 for 17 weeks. The “B” side was “MALAGUENA”, it also charted peaking at #42 and was on the Hot 100 for 9 weeks.
Connie Francis biggest single record is “EVERYBODY’S SOMEBODY’S FOOL”, entering the Hot 100 on May 9, 1960. It was #1 for 2 weeks and was on the Hot 100 for 18 weeks. The flip side was “JEALOUS OF YOU”, a Tango. It climbed up the chart to #19 and was on the Hot 100 for 11 weeks.
