They were one of the top female recording stars of the 1950s…The Chordettes. They are from
Sheboygan, Wisconsin, members include: Jamet Ertel, Carol Buschman, Lynn Evans and Margie Needham. Ertel married Cadence Record owner Archie Bleyer in 1954.
Their first huge hit single is…MR. SANDMAN in 1954. The single charted at #1 and remained at the top of the Billboard chart for 7 weeks. Many hit singles followed and in September of 1957 The Chordettes charted one of their biggest hits of the rock era…JUST BETWEEN YOU AND ME. The single record charted at #8 and remained on the Billboard Top 100 for 15 weeks. The flip-side of the Cadence Records single also charted…SOFT SANDS charted at #73.
Their next hit made its Billboard Top 100 debut on March 10, 1958 and became one of their biggest hits, only second to MR. SANDMAN. That record is their rock era classic…LOLLIPOP. The single on Cadence Records charted at #2 and held that spot for 2 weeks. It remained on the Top 100 for 15 weeks.
LOLLIPOP remains an oldies radio favorite. The wonderful harmonizing of The Chordettes is heard throughout this solid-gold hit. The flip-side of the single is…BABY COME-A-BACK-A, it did not chart.
The “GOLDEN
ERA OF ROCK AND ROLL” is bringing both of these great hits from…THE CHORDETTES…for you to listen to over and over.
