Hello: The Tune Weavers were an R&B vocal group from Boston, Massachusetts. Margo Sylvia sang lead, the rest of the group consisted of John Sylvia (husband), Gilbert Lopez (Margo’s brother) and Charlotte Davis (Margo’s cousin).
In September of 1957 The Tune Weavers released the classic HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BABY. It was first released on the Casa Grande Records label and then picked-up by the larger Checker Records label. The Tune Weavers hit stayed on the Billboard Charts for 19 weeks and reached #5, making it a huge national hit record. The single also crossed over to the Billboard R&B chart where it became a #4 hit and stayed on the R&B chart for 11 weeks.
Happy, Happy Birthday Baby is listed as one of the Top 1,000 Doo-Wop songs of all-time by Gribin/Schiff in their “The Complete Book Of Doo-Wop”. The Tune Weavers never charted another Top 100 hit but their one-hit is a classic that has filled dance floors and the air waves since it was first a hit in 1957. Sadly the voice of The Tune Weavers, Margo Sylvia, died in October of 1991 at the age of 55. Her fabulous lead on “Happy, Happy Birthday Baby” makes this golden classic a special part of the “Golden Era Of Rock And Roll”.
Till the next time–Joe
