Hi,  Jimmy Clanton had 8 Billboard Hot 100 hits to his credit when he recorded and charted one of his biggest hits.  Jimmy’s first Billboard Hot 100 hit was his million selling “JUST A DREAM” in 1958.  In December of 1959 his huge hit “GO JIMMY GO” entered the Hot 100 and climbed the chart to #5.  The hits started to slow down in 1961 as only one of his records was on the Hot 100, that was, “WHAT AM I GONNA DO” peaking at #50.

On August 18, 1962 things changed, that’s when Jimmy’s newest hit entered the Hot 100.  “VENUS IN BLUE JEANS” on Ace Records, the label that produced all of his big hits, began its climb up the chart.  That record became Jimmy’s third Top 10 hit as it reached #7 on the Hot 100.  “Venus In Blue Jeans” sold over 1 million copies and earned Jimmy Clanton a “Gold Record”.  His million seller remained on the chart for 13 weeks and would be his last Top 10 record.  The “B” side of the record was “HIGHWAY BOUND” written by Jimmy Clanton, it did not chart.

“Venus In Blue Jeans” is still played on oldies radio and remains a staple of his live shows.  A great song, that is sung by one of the big artists of the late 1950’s and early 1960’s.  “Venus In Blue Jeans” is a great oldie from the “Golden Era of Rock and Roll”

Till the next time—Joe
