Hi,  Almost eight years before charting their first big #1 hit,  THE SOUND OF SILENCE, as Simon & Garfunkel in November of 1965, the duo recorded a Billboard Top 100 hit as Tom & Jerry, that charted in December of 1957…HEY, SCHOOLGIRL on Big Records.  The single charted at #49 on the Top 100 and remained on the singles chart for 9 weeks…selling over 100,000 records.  The flip side was the up-tempo DANCIN’ WILD, it did not chart.  Both sides of the single were reissued on King Records in 1958, but did not chart.

HEY, SCHOOLGIRL remained on oldies radio after falling off the charts in the late 50s but has been pretty much put on the shelf as “LOST GOLD” today.  The single is important not just for being their first hit, but because it was popular in 1957.  You can hear the influence of the Everly Brothers in this timeless hit…THE LOST GOLD JUKEBOX…is proud to feature both sides of this pre-Simon & Garfunkel hit.

Hey Schoolgirl – 1957

Dancin’ Wild – 1957 Flip side of ‘Hey Schoolgirl’

Till the next time—Joe
