BILLY & LILLIE–“LA DEE DAH”

Billy & Lillie are an R&B vocal duo.  Billy Ford born on March 9, 1925 in Bloomfield, New Jersey and Lillie Bryant Born on February 14, 1940 in Newburg, New York.  Together they charted four hit records on the Billboard Top 100 and Hot 100 chart.  Billy & Lillie’s backing group was Bill Ford’s Thunderbirds.

Their first charted hit, made its Billboard Top 100 debut on January 6, 1958.  LA DEE DAH  on Swan Records became their biggest hit, charting at #9 and remaining on the Top 100 for 13 weeks.  In May of 1958 their second hit record  HAPPINESS  made its Top 100 debut.  The single charted at #56 and was not the big follow-up they had wanted.  In December of 1958 they would chart their third hit of the year,  LUCKY LADYBUG  and it would be the hit to return them to the Top 20.  LUCKY LADYBUG  climbed up the chart to #14 and remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks.

On July 13, 1959 they would chart their last Hot 100 hit with,  BELLS, BELLS, BELLS (The Bell Song).  The single would chart at #86.  In a year and a half Billy & Lilly placed four records on the pop charts, two of them…LA DEE DAH  and  LUCKY LADYBUG  are early pop classic and remain favorites on oldies radio.  Their sound was a happy-go-lucky, sing-a-long sound that made it hard to keep your feet on the ground…their music lives on in the, “GOLDEN ERA OF ROCK AND ROLL”.
