Sal Mineo was born Salvatore Mineo on January 10, 1939 in the Bronx, New York.  Singer/actor Sal starred with James Dean in the 1955 movie classic “Rebel Without A Cause”.  He was a teen singing star when his first Billboard Top 100 hit single…START MOVIN’ (In My Direction) on Epic Records made its chart appearance on May 20, 1957.  Along with the flip-side,  LOVE AFFAIR, the singles became #9 hits on the Top 100 chart.

Sal would have hits later in 1957 with  LASTING LOVE  and  YOU SHOULDN’T DO THAT  both charting at #27 and  PARTY TIME  in late 1957 at #45.  In January of 1958 he charted his last hit single record,  LITTLE PIGEON  at #45.

Sal Mineo was stabbed to death in February of 1976 at the age of 37…a wonderful talent from the “GOLDEN ERA OF ROCK AND ROLL”

Till the next time—Joe
