SONG OF THE DAY–SANTO & JOHNNY–“SLEEP WALK”

1959 was a great year in rock and roll and produced some huge hits…Bobby Darin’s…MACK THE KNIFE…STAGGER LEE  by Lloyd Price…THE BATTLE OF NEW ORLEANS  by Johnny Horton and the instrumental classic by Santo & Johnny…SLEEP WALK.  The guitar duo from Brooklyn, New York included…brothers…Santo (steel guitar) and Johnny (rhythm guitar)…Farina.

On July 27, 1959 their instrumental classic…SLEEP WALK on Canadian American Records  made its Billboard Hot 100 debut.  The single record charted at #1 and remained at #1 for two weeks.  The million-selling single remained on the Hot 100 for 18 weeks.  The flip-side of the record was…ALL NIGHT DINER, it did not chart.

SLEEP WALK would be their only Hot 100, Top 10 hit, but they would chart five other Hot 100 singles.  Their follow-up…TEARDROP, in 1959 charted at #23…it is their second highest charted hit record.
