SONG OF THE DAY–DION & THE BELMONTS–“NO ONE KNOWS” / “I CAN’T GO ON (ROSALIE)”

Dion and The Belmonts first charted hit record is the Grammy: Hall of Fame song…I WONDER WHY  on Laurie Records.  The single charted in May of 1958 and climbed the Billboard Top 100 chart to #22.  On August 25, 1958 the groups second hit single record made its chart debut…NO ONE KNOWS  a classy ballad actually charted higher than  I WONDER WHY.  The single reached #19 and remained on the chart for 16 weeks.

Dion and The Belmonts sing of the pain they feel…that…NO ONE KNOWS.  Dion’s soulful voice is the perfect vehicle to this teen heartbreak recording.  The flip-side of the single is the rocking…I CAN’T GO ON (ROSALIE), it did not chart.  All of Dion and The Belmonts charted hits were on Laurie Records.

Dion and The Belmonts are from the Bronx, New York.   First recorded as Dion & The Timberlanes on Mohawk Records in 1957.  They formed Dion and The Belmonts in 1958 and original members included:  Dion DiMucci-lead vocals, Angelo D’Aleo, Fred Milano and Carlo Mastrangelo.  They were named for Belmont Avenue in the Bronx.

They charted 9 Billboard pop hits between 1958 and 1960 including…DON’T PITY ME…A TEENAGER IN LOVE…WHERE OR WHEN and others.  Dion began a very successful solo career in 1960.  The Belmonts charted two Billboard Hot 100, Top 30 hits…TELL ME WHY-#18 in 1961 and…COME ON LITTLE ANGEL-#28 in 1962.

Joe Troiano’s blog…THE “GOLDEN ERA OF ROCK AND ROLL IS PROUD TO PRESENT…DION AND THE BELMONTS…SINGING BOTH SIDES OF THEIR SECOND HIT RECORD…”NO ONE KNOWS”  AND  “I CAN’T GO ON (ROSALIE)”.
