BORN SANDER NELSON ON DECEMBER 1, 1938 IN SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA.  SANDY WENT ON TO RECORD 9 BILLBOARD HOT 100 HIT RECORDS.  HE BECAME A PROMINENT STUDIO MUSICIAN…HE CAN BE HEARD ON MANY HIT RECORDS, INCLUDING…A THOUSAND STARS…TO KNOW HIM IS TO LOVE HIM AND ALLEY OOP.

HIS BIGGEST HITS BOTH BECAME BILLBOARD HOT 100, TOP TEN HITS…THEY ARE…”TEEN BEAT”, THAT SINGLE RECORD CHARTED ON SEPTEMBER 7, 1959.  IT WAS RELEASED ON THE ORIGINAL SOUND (5) RECORD LABEL.  THE SINGLE BECAME A HUGE HIT AS IT REACHED #4 ON THE HOT 100 AND REMAINED ON THE CHART FOR 16 WEEKS.  “TEEN BEAT” CROSSED OVER TO THE BILLBOARD R&B CHART AND BECAME A #17 HIT.  SANDY’S SECOND HIT CHARTED ON OCTOBER 30, 1961 ON THE IMPERIAL RECORDS LABEL.  “LET THERE BE DRUMS” IMPERIAL (5775) BECAME ANOTHER TOP 10 HIT AS IT CLIMBED THE HOT 100 TO #7 AND REMAINED ON THE POP CHART FOR 16 WEEKS.

HIS ONLY OTHER TOP 40 POP HIT CHARTED ON FEBRUARY 10, 1962.  “DRUMS ARE MY BEAT”, IMPERIAL (5809) REACHED #29 ON THE HOT 100 AND REMAINED ON THE CHART FOR 7 WEEKS.  IN 1963 SANDY LOST PART OF HIS LEG IN A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT, BUT HE RETURNED TO PERFORMING IN 1964.
