BOBBY PEDRICK WAS BORN ROBERT PEDRICK ON JANUARY 3, 1946 IN BROOKLYN, NEW YORK…HE FIRST RECORDED AT THE AGE OF 12 FOR BIG TOP RECORDS. HIS RECORDING OF “WHITE BUCKS AND SADDLE SHOES” ON BIG TOP RECORDS (BIG TOP 3004) CHARTED ON NOVEMBER 10, 1958 AND CLIMBED THE BILLBOARD HOT 100 TO NUMBER 74. THE SINGLE RECORD REMAINED ON THE CHART FOR 4 WEEKS…THE SINGLE BECAME MUCH MORE POPULAR IN VARIOUS MARKETS. THE “B” SIDE OF THE RECORD WAS “STRANDED”, IT DID NOT CHART.

BOBBY WOULD ALSO RECORD ANOTHER AREA FAVORITE “PAJAMA PARTY” IN 1959 ON BIG TOP RECORDS (BIG TOP 3008). THE SINGLE DID NOT CHART ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100 BUT DID SELL REASONABLY WELL. “PAJAMA PARTY” DID CHART AT #20 ON THE CANADIAN CHUM MUSIC CHART. THE FLIP SIDE OF THE SINGLE WAS “BETTY BLUE EYES”.

BOBBY RECORDED WITHOUT MUCH SUCCESS ON SHELL RECORDS IN 1960 AND ON DUEL RECORDS IN 1962. HE BECAME LEAD SINGER OF BOBBY & THE CONSOLES LATER IN 1962. THEIR RECORDING OF “MY JELLY BEAN” WAS A REGIONAL NEW YORK HIT.

IN 1968 HE BECAME KNOWN AS ROBERT JOHN…AND CHARTED 11 HIT RECORDS ON THE BILLBOARD CHARTS BETWEEN 1968 AND 1983. HE RECORDED TWO MILLION SELLING HIT RECORDS…”THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT” IN 1972 (#3) AND “SAD EYES” IN 1979 (#1).
