LLOYD PRICE–“STAGGER LEE” AND HIS HUGE HITS OF 1959

Lloyd Price was one of the giants of the early days of rock and roll.  He was born on March 9, 1933 in Kenner, Louisiana.  His first recording was the #1 R&B hit,  LAWDY MISS CLAWDY  on Specialty Records in 1952.  He formed his own record company, KRC Records in 1956.  His recording of  JUST BECAUSE  was leased to ABC-Paramount Records.  He was signed to a recording contract with the label in 1957.

Lloyd Price charted his classic recording of  STAGGER LEE  on December 8, 1958.  The single record became one of the biggest hits of 1959 when it charted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on February 9, 1959 and held the #1 position for 4 weeks.  STAGGER LEE  also crossed over to the Billboard R&B chart and became a #1 on that chart also.  The single sold over 1 million copies world-wide.  In March of 1959 Lloyd charted his…
