The Demensions formed when Lenny Del Giudice (“Lenny Dell) and Howie Margolin were members of the Melody Singers, a Choral group at Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, New York.  They added Charlie Peterson and Marisa Martelli to become the Demensions.

After graduation from high school in 1960, Lenny’s dad, Lou, a professional musician, became the groups manager.  He introduced the group to Irving Spice, who signed them to a recording contract with Mohawk Records.

On July 4, 1960 The Demensions charted the classic…OVER THE RAINBOW  on Mohawk Records (116).  The single became a huge hit and climbed the Billboard Hot 100 to #16.  The single remained on the chart for 15 weeks.  The Judy Garland classic from “The Wizard Of Oz” became a pop and doo-wop smash and is still a favorite in that genre.  The flip-side of the single…NURSERY RHIME ROCK  did not chart.
