SONNY JAMES IS ONE OF COUNTRY MUSIC’S GREATEST CHART ARTISTS. HE HAS CHARTED 72 HIT SINGLE RECORDS ON THE BILLBOARD COUNTRY MUSIC CHART BEGINNING IN 1953 WITH “THAT’S ME WITHOUT YOU” AND OF COURSE HIS GREATEST HIT OF ALL “YOUNG LOVE” IN 1956.
THE TUNES FEATURED HERE DID NOT CHART. “KATHLEEN” AND “WALK TO THE DANCE” ON CAPITOL RECORDS WERE RELEASED IN 1957. WHY FEATURE THEM? I BOUGHT THE 45RPM RECORD IN 1957 AND PLAYED IT ON MY PHONOGRAPH OVER AND OVER AND HAVE NEVER GOT TIRED OF THIS GREAT RECORD. WHY IT NEVER CHARTED? I DON’T KNOW, BUT WHEN IT IS PLAYED ON MY RADIO PROGRAM….MY AUDIENCE ENJOYS IT.
GIVE THIS GREAT RECORD A LISTEN, I THINK YOU WILL LIKE IT ALSO.

THIS IS A CLASSIC RECORDING BY KENNY VANCE & THE PLANO000040000TONES. “LOOKING FOR AN ECHO” IS THE STORY OF A GROUP OF TEENS LOOKING FOR THAT PERFECT SOUND. THE RECORDING SAYS IT ALL. DOO WOP AT IS BEST.

Jay-TraynorJAY TRAYNOR ORIGINAL LEAD SINGER OF JAY AND THE AMERICANS WHO’S HIT RECORDING OF “SHE CRIED” BECAME THE FIRST HIT FOR THE GROUP IN 1962, CHARTING AT #5 ON THE BILLBOARD HOT 100. HE WAS ALSO A LEAD VOCALIST OF THE MYSTICS, ON TUNES SUCH AS “WHITE CLIFFS OF DOVER”, “OVER THE RAINBOW” AND “BLUE STAR”.

HE ALSO TOURED WITH JAY SIEGEL’S TOKENS. JAY PASSED AWAY ON JANUARY 2, 2014 AT THE AGE OF 69. OUR PRAYERS AND THOUGHTS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT THEIR TIME OF MOURNING.jayamericans3

IT IS SAD TO REPORT THAT PHIL EVERLY HAS PASSED AWAY ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 3, 2014 AT THE AGE OF 74. PHIL WAS BORN ON JANUARY 19, 1939 IN CHICAGO, ILLNOIS. HE AND BROTHER DON EVERLY BECAME THE GREATEST DUO OF THE ROCK ERA. THEY CHARTED 50 HIT RECORDINGS ON THE BILLBOARD POP CHARTS BETWEEN 1957 AND 1968. PHIL BEGAN SINGING AT THE AGE OF 6, HIS BROTHER DON AT THE AGE OF 8 IN THEIR PARENTS BAND. THEY RECORDED FOR COLUMBIA RECORDS IN 1956 AND THEN SIGNED TO ARCHIE BLEYER’S, CADENCE RECORDS IN 1957. THEIR FIRST HIT RECORD WAS “BYE BYE LOVE” IN 1957 A #2 POP HIT AND A #1 COUNTRY HIT IN THE USA. THE EVERLY BROTHERS WERE INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME IN 1986.

PLEASE SEE OTHER POSTS ON THE EVERLY BROTHERS ALONG WITH A JUKEBOX OF SOME OF THEIR BIGGEST HITS.

WE SEND OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY AND PRAYERS TO THE EVERLY FAMILY. THAT WONDERFUL VOICE IS NOW A PART OF THE HEAVENLY CHOIR.1d39cf7a-16b3-3c48-ba48-d8525ff567dd12bf3145-c70b-3f1b-aa1d-4dfa48382e84323-1-im-Cover-7750Phil-Everly-One-Half-of-the-Everly-Brothers-Dies-Aged-74-413516-2The+Everly+Brothers+4

NOT ONLY CHANGED THE SOUND OF COUNTRY MUSIC BUT HIS MUSIC BECAME THE SOUND OF SOME OF THE BIG POP AND ROCK AND ROLL SOUNDS THE WORLD WOULD COME TO KNOW. HANK WAS BORN HIRAM KING WILLIAMS ON SEPTEMBER 17, 1923 IN MOUNT OLIVE, ALABAMA. HE DIED ON JANUARY 1, 1953 ON HIS WAY TO A CONCERT IN CANTON, OHIO. HE WAS 29 YEARS OLD.
I HIS LIFETIME HE WOULD CHART 33 COUNTRY HITS. HIS FIRST WOULD BE MOVE IT ON OVER, CHARTING IN AUGUST OF 1947 AND CLIMBING THE COUNTRY MUSIC CHART TO #4. BETWEEN 1947 AND 1952 HANK WOULD CHART 8 #1 HITS, WITH ONLY 3 OF HIS RECORDS NOT REACHING THE TOP 10 AND THEY WOULD BECOME #12 AND #14 HITS…NOT BAD AT ALL. HIS MUSIC WOULD CONTINUE TO RULE THE COUNTRY MUSIC CHARTS AFTER HIS PASSING. HIS NEXT THREE HITS AFTER HIS PASSING REACHED #1 ON THE COUNTRY CHARTS AND HE WOULD PLACE A TOTAL OF 42 HITS ON THE BILLBOARD COUNTRY MUSIC CHARTS.

HIS 5 BIGGEST HIT RECORDS ARE: 1-LOVESICK BLUES 1949 #1 FOR 16 WEEKS (42 WEEKS ON THE COUNTRY CHART)

HANK WOULD CHART 3 MORE HITS AFTER HIS PASSING, FOR A TOTAL OF 11 #1 HITS BETWEEN 1947 AND 1953.
SOME OF HIS TUNES WOULD BECOME BIG HITS FOR OTHER ARTISTS..COLD COLD HEART FOR TONY BENNETT, MY BUCKETS GOT A HOLE IN IT, FOR RICKY NELSON. BJ THOMAS WOULD HAVE A MILLION SELLER WITH, I’M SO LONESOME I COULD CRY AND JERRY LEE LEWIS WOULD HAVE A BIG HIT WITH, YOU WIN AGAIN..JUST TO NAME A FEW, THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.
TO SAY HE TURNED COUNTRY MUSIC ON ITS EAR WOULD BE AN UNDERSTATEMENT..HIS MUSIC CONTINUES TO INFLUENCE ARTISTS TODAY…THERE IS ONLY ONE HANK WILLIAMS.
